What is Christian Therapy
Christian therapy combines evidence-based counseling with a biblical understanding of healing, hope, and personal growth. Rather than asking you to separate your faith from your emotional well-being, Christian therapy recognizes that your relationship with God may be an important part of how you understand your struggles and experience healing.
Together, we'll use proven therapeutic approaches such as EMDR and Emotionally Focused Therapy to address anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and other concerns. If you would like, we can also incorporate prayer, Scripture, spiritual practices, and conversations about your faith into the counseling process. Every session is tailored to your comfort level and spiritual journey—you'll never be pressured to engage in practices that don't feel right for you.
The goal isn't simply to help you feel better. It's to help you experience lasting healing while growing emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. We believe faith and excellent clinical care work hand in hand, creating space for both emotional healing and a deeper relationship with God.
Therapy is a safe place to wrestle with doubt, disappointment, unanswered prayers, anger toward God, or difficult questions without fear of judgment.
Healing From Church Hurt
For many people, some of the deepest wounds don't come from the world—they come from places that were meant to feel safe. A church. A ministry. A trusted leader. A community that once felt like family.
Maybe you've experienced judgment instead of grace, rejection instead of acceptance, legalism instead of freedom, or leadership failures that left you questioning people you once trusted. Perhaps you've been wounded by gossip, betrayal, spiritual abuse, or relationships within the church that left you wondering where God was in the middle of it all.
Those experiences can leave lasting marks. You may find yourself hesitant to trust others, pulling away from Christian community, struggling to pray, or questioning beliefs that once gave you hope.
Christian therapy offers a safe place to process those wounds honestly. Together, we can make space for your questions, your grief, your anger, and your disappointment without fear of judgment. Healing doesn't require pretending those experiences didn't happen. Instead, we'll work toward separating the character of a perfect God from the painful actions of imperfect people, while helping you rebuild trust, rediscover hope, and strengthen your faith at a pace that feels right for you.
christian therapyDo You Long For Care That Honors Your Faith?
Do you want to work with a therapist who understands that your relationship with God is central to who you are?
Have you felt like you have to choose between solid clinical help and care that respects your beliefs?
Are you wrestling with pain, anxiety, marriage struggles, or past wounds and wishing you could bring your faith into the healing process?
Do you want a space where prayer, Scripture, and proven therapy can sit comfortably side by side?
Faith is not something many of us can simply set aside when we walk into a counseling office. It shapes how we understand suffering, hope, forgiveness, and purpose. Yet so often people feel they have to leave that part of themselves at the door to get good clinical care. You shouldn’t have to.
In Christian therapy, you can bring your whole self, including your faith, into the work of healing. With care that is both clinically sound and spiritually rooted, you can find real relief and grow closer to God in the process.

Meet KaaraChristian Therapy Meets You Where Your Faith And Your Healing Intersect
One of the things people wonder before reaching out is whether Christian counseling means they're going to have Scripture quoted at them the entire session. Christian counseling with me is led by you. For some clients, that means we open in prayer, bring Scripture into our conversations, and view their struggles through a redemptive lens. For others, faith stays more in the background, a quiet foundation rather than a spoken focus. I’ll always follow your lead and meet you where you are.
What stays constant is the clinical foundation. I’m an EMDR-trained, Emotionally Focused therapist, which means the same proven methods I use throughout my practice are fully available here. When we address trauma, I draw on EMDR therapy and trauma therapy. When we work on your marriage, I use emotionally focused therapy and the principles behind effective couples therapy. Faith doesn’t replace good therapy, it deepens it, offering hope, meaning, and grace alongside real clinical tools.
I’m Kaara Kiddoe, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a master’s from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and ten years of practice. Alongside my husband Jared, I co-founded Authentic Marriages as a faith-based ministry for couples and individuals to heal and grow.

Never. Christian therapy here is an invitation, not a requirement. You set the pace and the role faith plays in our work. My job is to support your healing in a way that honors what matters most to you, not to impose anything.

It’s real, professional therapy. I’m a licensed clinical social worker using evidence-based methods like EMDR and EFT. Faith is integrated thoughtfully, but it never replaces sound clinical care — the two work together.

No. I work with individuals and couples from a wide variety of faith backgrounds including Hindu, Muslims, and even those who may be agnostic.

Many people seek Christian therapy during seasons of doubt, unanswered prayers, spiritual dryness, or after experiences that have shaken their faith. You may feel distant from God, struggle to trust Him, or wonder why He allowed certain things to happen. Those questions don't disqualify you from Christian therapy—they're welcome here.
Together, we'll create space to explore your thoughts and emotions honestly without judgment or pressure. My role isn't to tell you what to believe, but to walk alongside you as you pursue healing and, if you desire, strengthen your relationship with God.

Yes. Church hurt can leave deep emotional and spiritual wounds, especially when the pain comes from people or places you trusted.
Whether you've experienced rejection, legalism, spiritual abuse, leadership failures, betrayal, or unhealthy relationships within a church community, those experiences deserve to be acknowledged and processed with compassion. They can impact your ability to trust others, participate in church, or even feel close to God.
Christian therapy provides a safe place to work through those experiences at your own pace. Together, we'll process what happened, help separate the character of a perfect God from the actions of imperfect people, and support you as you heal emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. You don't have to pretend you're okay, and you don't have to walk through it alone.
